Why Ukrainians began to donate less to the army

Donations for the needs of the Ukrainian army have decreased significantly this year, Bloomberg with reference to the largest Ukrainian volunteer funds. According to volunteer Serhiy Prytula, in order to collect the same amounts, it is necessary to work three times more than in previous years. The drop in donations is 20% in the Shelter fund, 15% in "Return to Life", 40% in Reactive Post, and even in "SOS Army" the collection has fallen 10 times.

There are several reasons for the decrease in donations, including economic difficulties, which are aggravated by energy problems in the country, when people have to spend money on energy equipment due to constant blackouts. In addition, the volunteers point to the so-called "habituation" to the war - when a part of the citizens stopped feeling the same urgent need to support the army, as it was at the beginning of a full-scale invasion.

A survey conducted in August of this year showed that more than a third of Ukrainians admitted that they had reduced their donations compared to last year. This puts support for the Ukrainian military at risk, although volunteers continue to work to find new sources of funding.

Experts say the drop in donations is a sign that war is becoming more commonplace, and that economic hardship is weighing on the desire to support the military. Whether Ukrainian foundations will be able to resume fundraising at the appropriate level is a matter of time, but today's situation requires new approaches and strategies.
