The energy situation in Ukraine remains difficult, and the risk of power outages in winter will depend on several key factors. In his interview with UNIAN, energy expert Gennady Ryabtsev told which aspects will affect the duration and scope of possible restrictions.
1. Consequences of Russian missile strikes
Rocket attacks leave the biggest mark on the energy system. According to Ryabtsev, the destruction can take from several days to several weeks, depending on the extent of the damage. For example, after the attack on August 26, the power system was restored for 13 days, and this period was accompanied by fan outages.
2. Air temperature
Winter cold also seriously affects the stability of energy supply. If the temperature drops below -5°C, the probability of hourly outages will increase significantly, the expert notes. A decrease in temperature increases the consumption of electricity for heating, creating an additional load on the system.
3. Weather phenomena
Blizzards, blizzards, strong winds, and sleet can cause icing of power lines and equipment failure. This leads to emergency situations that require urgent intervention.
4. Worn equipment
Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains vulnerable due to old equipment. Its wear and tear increases the risk of breakdowns at power plants, which can reduce available energy generation.
Prospects for the winter
According to Ryabtsev, taking into account all the mentioned factors, the situation this winter may be similar to last season. He urged to avoid panic and work on mitigating risks. At the same time, the expert emphasized the importance of prompt response to any threats and citizens' readiness for possible interruptions.
What should citizens do?
Experts advise to prepare for winter: have alternative sources of light and heat at home, plan energy consumption taking into account possible outage schedules and keep calm in difficult situations.
