In 2024, Kyiv remains the main center of higher education in Ukraine, attracting a quarter of all entrants. According to Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, the capital continues to be a "huge magnet" for applicants. This is confirmed by the admissions campaign, according to which 25% of all applicants decided to continue their education in Kyiv universities.
"Kyiv has its own important role and importance in education, and applicants choose the capital city not by chance. This indicates a certain order and hierarchy in higher education," Vynnytskyi emphasized in an interview with LB.ua.
In 2024, Ukrainian universities enrolled more than 187,000 applicants for budget and contract forms of education. This is 80 thousand less than in the previous year, when the number of entrants was 267 thousand. In total, more than 217,000 applications for admission were submitted.
A feature of this campaign was a significant number of refusals from budget places: 6,284 applicants who received an offer for free education refused it. Among them, almost 25% - 1,442 people - did not enter Ukrainian universities. At the same time, the majority of those who refused the budget chose contract study at other universities, using a state grant or enrolling in institutions where they really wanted to study.
