In the conditions of ongoing aggression from Russia, the issues of nuclear safety and the risks of attacks on energy infrastructure remain extremely relevant. Despite fears, nuclear energy experts emphasize that even in the event of a missile attack, the situation can be controlled.
Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Ludvig Lytvynsky believes that the risk of a serious disaster, similar to Chernobyl or Fukushima, is minimal if the rocket does not hit the power unit directly.
“Rocket attacks can cause damage to networks, power outages or even blackouts. However, there will be no nuclear or radiation threat until there is a direct strike on the power unit," Lytvynskyi said on the air of the Espresso TV channel.
The expert also emphasized that missiles, even without nuclear warheads, can be classified as unconventional weapons due to their destructive power.
This statement is supported by other experts who emphasize the danger of Russia's use of modern high-precision missiles capable of causing large-scale destruction even without a nuclear charge.
Discussions about the Kremlin's readiness to use nuclear weapons continue. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic expressed his belief that Vladimir Putin would not hesitate to use the nuclear arsenal if he finds himself in a hopeless situation.
On the other hand, Major-General of the SBU reserve Viktor Yagun emphasized that the state of Russian nuclear weapons raises doubts. "No one has accurate data on the condition of these warheads. This remains a secret even for military experts," Yagun emphasized.
