Holidays are a time of joy, gifts and treats, but for children, the New Year's table can hide dangers. Some products and dishes, although appetizing, are not at all suitable for a children's menu. Pediatrician Yuliya Serban tells how to protect small guests from food problems.
Foods to avoid
- Raw egg sauces
Homemade mayonnaise and other raw egg sauces are a potential source of salmonella. Such dishes are absolutely not suitable for children and can cause serious infectious diseases. - Sushi and rolls
Raw fish or seafood, even cooked at home, poses a risk to children under 5 years of age. Soy sauce with a high salt content is also not recommended. - Sweets
Chocolate, cakes and desserts with added sugar are taboo for children under 2 years old. Older children can be allowed a few candies, but within reasonable limits. Excessive bans can backfire, so it's important to find a balance. - Foods that are kept on the table for a long time
The festive night lasts for hours, and food that remains on the table for more than two hours can cause poisoning. Serve children only fresh foods that have been stored in the refrigerator.
Useful tips for a safe celebration
- Include simple and safe dishes in the children's menu: baked vegetables, meat, cheese or fruits.
- Agree in advance with the child about his treats to avoid arguments at the festive table.
- Always pay attention to the condition of the products you are cooking with.
Holidays should be not only tasty, but also safe. Make sure that the New Year's menu corresponds to the age characteristics of the children. Avoid potentially dangerous dishes, and your holiday will leave only pleasant memories for the whole family.
