The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (SAC) extended the preventive measure in the form of detention for the head of the Khmelnytskyi Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEK) Tetyana Krupa, who is suspected of illegal enrichment. The term of stay under arrest was extended until March 23, 2025. At the same time, the amount of the pledge was reduced from 280 to 260 million hryvnias.
The head of Khmelnytskyi MSEK found herself in the center of attention of law enforcement back in October 2024. Then, during searches of her apartment, $6 million in cash, jewelry and luxury brand items were discovered. An attempt to hide the traces of illegal enrichment turned into a farce: the official tried to throw two bags with $500,000 out the window.
Krupa's case was supplemented by strange real estate transactions. In 2017, she received a shop valued at 200,000 as a gift. hryvnias, and during the war she sold it for 18 million hryvnias — almost 90 times more expensive.
On January 23, 2025, the investigating judge partially granted the request of NABU detectives. The leader of MSEK will remain in custody, but she can be released if she pays a bail of 260 million hryvnias.
Under the terms of the pledge, Krupa will be obliged to:
- to appear upon summons to the investigator, prosecutor or court;
- notify about a change of residence;
- do not leave Khmelnytskyi borders without permission;
- to hand in a passport for going abroad.
However, given the amount of funds found, it may be quite realistic to collect the necessary amount for bail for her.
This case vividly illustrates the scale of corruption in bodies called to deal with social problems. The public is eagerly awaiting a guilty verdict in this case. At the same time, Krupa, like any suspect, according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
