The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACU) has extended the preventive measure of detention for the head of the Khmelnytskyi Medical and Social Expert Commission (MSEC) Tetyana Krupa, who is suspected of illicit enrichment. The term of detention has been extended until March 23, 2025. At the same time, the amount of bail has been reduced from 280 to 260 million hryvnias.
The head of the Khmelnytskyi MSEK was in the spotlight of law enforcement back in October 2024. Then, during searches in her apartment, $6 million in cash, jewelry, and luxury brand items were discovered. An attempt to hide traces of illegal enrichment turned into a farce: the official tried to throw two bags containing $500,000 out the window.
Krupa's case was supplemented by strange real estate deals. In 2017, she received a store as a gift, valued at 200 thousand UAH, and during the war she sold it for 18 million UAH — almost 90 times more expensive.
On January 23, 2025, the investigating judge partially granted the request of the NABU detectives. The head of the MSEC will remain in custody, but may be released if she posts bail in the amount of UAH 260 million.
Under the terms of the pledge, Krupa will be obliged to:
- to appear before an investigator, prosecutor or court upon summons;
- to report a change of residence;
- not to leave the borders of Khmelnytskyi without permission;
- to hand over a passport to travel abroad.
However, given the amount of money found, raising the necessary amount for bail for her may be quite realistic.
This case vividly illustrates the scale of corruption in the bodies tasked with dealing with social problems. Society is eagerly awaiting the guilty verdict in this case. At the same time, Krupa, like any suspect, according to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
