The Ukrainian military, which maintains defensive positions in the Pokrovsky direction in the Donetsk region, express fears about a possible breakthrough of Russian forces. CNN reports , one of the main reasons for concern is the lack of personnel in the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that defend this section of the front.
It is not possible to compensate for the lack of infantry with drones, and "command errors are increasing."
"The situation is very critical. We don't have enough infantry to fight and hold out for a while while the drones do their job. That is why we often see situations when the enemy uncontrollably penetrates into vulnerable zones," says the commander of the drone unit of the 15th National Guard brigade with the call sign Ist.
For example, Selidove, lost in October, was defended by only six Ukrainian positions, that is, about 60 soldiers, who were quickly surrounded and retreated with significant losses.
The fighters "gave a stark assessment of the prospects in the area for the coming months."
“I can't say exactly how much time we have, if any. Now they (the Russians) are pulling their troops to the front as much as possible. And at one fine moment, they will all go on an assault. They can go very far. In one day, let's say. The enemy is advancing because there are no people on the ground to defend their positions. Nobody wants to sit there. There is a very high probability that they will not return," says sniper scout Kashchei.
Fighters are skeptical about the prospect of ending hostilities after Trump's arrival.
"Freezing this war is a double-edged sword. Shall we give up the land for which my friends died, or shall we continue to reclaim it and lose even more friends. If these two old men (Trump and Putin - CNN) start to measure each other, Ukraine will be at the center of all this. It will be unpleasant," says fighter Kotya.
