Caffeine and sugar: which drinks threaten children's health

Some popular drinks can be harmful to children and even cause irreparable harm to their health. Experts advise avoiding certain categories of drinks in childhood due to their high sugar, caffeine and other stimulants content, which negatively affect the body's development.

The list of drinks that are not recommended for children includes:

  1. Sweet carbonated drinks, especially colas, should not be consumed by children under 12 years of age. They contain a lot of sugar and phosphoric acid, which, together with caffeine, leaches calcium from the bones. This is especially dangerous during the period of active growth of a child, as it weakens bone tissue.

  2. Packaged juices and sodas should be limited for children under 11 years old. Despite their name, these drinks contain few nutrients and a lot of hidden sugar. Regular consumption can contribute to obesity, tooth decay, and allergies.

  3. Coffee and strong tea are not recommended for children under 16. The caffeine in these drinks can cause nervous system excitement, sleep disturbances, increased blood pressure, and anxiety. By adolescence, the body is not yet ready for such stimulants.

  4. Energy drinks are strictly prohibited for persons under the age of 18. The high doses of caffeine, sugar, and other stimulants in these drinks can lead to serious heart problems, arrhythmias, and neurological disorders.

Instead, plain drinking water is best for children. Homemade compotes without added sugar, compotes, and mild herbal teas will also be useful - subject to consultation with a doctor.

Children's health depends on proper nutrition and drinking regimen. Parents should be careful and avoid foods that can harm their little ones' bodies.
