The commander of the 57th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Oleksandr Bakulin, compared the current situation in Ukraine with the historical experience of Finland, which, although it lost part of its territories after the war with the USSR, preserved its independence and territorial integrity. He expressed his thoughts in an interview with ABC News.
“Little Finland once fought against the great USSR. Yes, it lost some territories. But it still exists as a country, and Russia doesn’t even look in that direction. We are in a similar situation, but I hope we won’t lose our land,” he told ABC News.
The publication quotes the colonel as saying that “ultimately this war will end with a deal.” “And he even seems to have agreed that this may require giving up territory, citing the experience of neighboring Finland,” the American television channel concludes.
At the same time, Bakulin stated, "We have already won this war. The question is at what point will it end and at what stage.".
