Military personnel in Ukraine serving under a contract are entitled to housing rental compensation and relocation assistance when moving to a new place of duty. These payments are important support for military personnel, but are not available to mobilized military personnel, which may encourage contract service.
Compensation for housing rental
Sublease compensation is paid to military personnel who do not have their own housing in the region of service. The amount depends on the location of the military unit:
- Kyiv – 4560 UAH per month
- Regional centers – 3420 UAH per month
- Other settlements – 2280 UAH per month
If a serviceman has three or more family members, the amount of compensation increases by one and a half times, which allows for adequate living conditions for the serviceman's family.
To process compensation for sublease, you must:
- Submit a report indicating the reason for the need for subletting.
- Provide documents stipulated by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 450, including:
- certificate of lack of own housing,
- a copy of the rental agreement,
- documents confirming family composition.
Moving allowances
“Movement” is a one-time benefit paid to military personnel when they move to a new place of duty. This payment is available in the following cases:
- appointment to a new position in another locality,
- enrollment for studies over 6 months,
- redeployment of the unit,
- appointment to a position after completing training.
The amount of the moving allowance is the monthly allowance of the serviceman plus 50% of this amount for each family member who moves with him. Daily allowances are also paid for the days of moving. If, for example, the family consists of a wife and two children, the payment will include the monthly allowance of the serviceman and additional payments for family members.
The lifting allowance can be received no more than twice a year, even in the case of frequent changes of place of service. If both spouses are military, then each is entitled to receive benefits.
How to apply
A serviceman submits a report to receive sub-tenancy compensation or a lifting allowance to the commander of the military unit. The necessary documents are attached to the report, and after approval, the payment is transferred to the serviceman's bank account.
