The Horodotskyi District Court of Lviv Oblast has sentenced former Lviv Customs Officer Yevhen Chernyuk, finding him guilty of bribery and abuse of influence. According to the investigation, the official systematically received illegal benefits for facilitating the import of cars into Ukraine.
As stated in the court verdict published in the court registry in December 2025, Cherniuk, while serving as a state inspector of the customs value analysis and control department of Lviv Customs, demanded and received bribes for influencing decisions regarding customs clearance of vehicles.
In particular, in June 2025, a customs officer received $100 for not creating artificial obstacles during customs clearance of a BMW 530d. In addition, he took another $300 for influencing his colleagues to facilitate the import of three other cars. In July 2025, law enforcement officers documented him receiving another $1,200 for similar influence regarding the import of other cars.
The detention of Yevhen Chernyuk was previously reported by ZAXID.NET. During the pre-trial investigation, the accused entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. According to his electronic declaration, at the time of the case, he no longer worked at the Lviv Customs. The verdict also states that Chernyuk is serving in one of the military units.
The case was considered by Judge Olga Ferentz. After studying the materials of the proceedings and the arguments of the parties, she approved the plea agreement and imposed a fine of 85 thousand hryvnias. The court also banned Chernyuk from holding positions in customs authorities for 1.5 years.
In addition, $400 in ill-gotten gains was confiscated as state revenue. The court's verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed in accordance with the procedure established by law.
