In Varash, a court ruled in the case of Yevheniy Pavlyshyn, the son of former director of the Rivne NPP Pavlyshyn, who attacked a 64-year-old woman on White Lake, as a result of which she later died.
The incident occurred on June 18, 2022 at the Kholodok recreation center. According to the investigation, Pavlyshyn, while intoxicated, was relieving himself near a rented kung fu. He responded to the victim's remarks with a blow to the head, after which the woman fell, and the attacker continued to kick her. The victim's daughter was hit in the face when she rushed to help her mother.
Doctors diagnosed the woman with broken ribs, a concussion, and numerous bruises and injuries. The victim's daughter also suffered a traumatic brain injury. Both were hospitalized, but Tamara Leus died in the hospital on June 22.
The case was initially classified as premeditated murder, but during the trial the version was changed. The verdict stated that the death occurred due to a “fall in the hospital ward,” and the injuries inflicted on Pavlyshyn were not directly related to the death.
The court sentenced Pavlyshyn to two years in prison with a probationary period of two years. He was released from liability for the article on hooliganism due to the expiration of the statute of limitations. The family of the deceased demanded UAH 2.2 million in compensation, but the court awarded only UAH 50,000 in moral damages and denied material claims.
The decision has sparked outrage among residents of Varash, who call it unfair and suspect corrupt influences.
