Military correspondent Yuriy Butusov analyzes the difference between a competent and incompetent commander. And wonders why some brigades remove good brigade commanders and replace them with useless ones.
How to assess the competence of a brigade commander?
A competent brigade commander organizes the defeat of the enemy by controlling units and interacting between batteries, drones, infantry, armored vehicles, and communications, and determines the priority of targets and the appropriateness of ammunition consumption. The assessment of his results is the number of video defeats by all units of his brigade.
An incompetent brigade commander watches the streams, sees the target and takes control of the destruction himself, tells the drones where to fly, how the artillery and mortars should fire, makes adjustments himself, on the air, such a brigade commander is a hoot, a checkmate, he creates psychosis in his subordinates, because he wants everything now. But accurate hits require careful planning. Such brigade commanders think that the war is going on thanks to them, they see only themselves everywhere, and subordinates are imperfect tools for them. When such brigade commanders are constantly playing war games, such brigade commanders have no time to manage tactical actions, plan, listen to people. And they also have no time to learn something themselves.
This came to my mind from the example of one brigade in an important direction, where a completely competent brigade commander was recently replaced - and now the new brigade commander is shooting at streams there himself. I see in this the lack of clear criteria among the military-political leadership for assessing the competence of formation commanders.
We have many commanders who are focused on achieving the main result - maximizing enemy losses and minimizing their own. It is they who deserve promotion, while others need to change, or should be changed.
