At the Krakivets-Korchova checkpoint on the Ukrainian-Polish border, Lviv customs officers discovered smuggled mobile phones and tablets worth about UAH 5 million.
According to the press service of Lviv Customs, during the inspection of a Peugeot Boxer minibus, customs officers found two secret compartments filled with electronics. The compartments contained 320 pieces of equipment, including iPads, Samsung, Google, Redmi, and Galaxy phones.
The driver, a 42-year-old resident of Lviv region, was returning to Ukraine and indicated in the declaration that he was transporting only personal belongings, which aroused suspicion among customs officers. Scanning the vehicle revealed two hidden caches: one with soundproofing behind the rear wall of the cabin, the other under the streamlined wing above the cabin.
According to customs officials, the phones were placed through a small hole, which was then tightly closed. Customs officers used special tools to remove the contraband.
Upon detection of contraband, a report on violation of customs rules was drawn up under Part 1 of Article 483 of the Civil Code. The car was temporarily seized pending consideration of the case in court.
