At the Ukrainian-Slovak border, customs officers seized a batch of branded accessories and jewelry that were being tried to be imported into Ukraine without declaring. The estimated value of the detected goods exceeds 1.8 million hryvnias.
The violation was recorded at the Uzhhorod - Vyshne Nemetske checkpoint. During the inspection of a regular bus returning from Austria, the driver told customs officers that he was only transporting personal belongings.
However, during the inspection of the luggage compartment, inspectors discovered two boxes with luxury brand goods. They contained five women's handbags from famous fashion houses - Gucci, Chanel, Dior, Celine and Louis Vuitton. Also among the items were a Celine silk scarf, Hermes women's shoes and jewelry - rings, a bracelet and a watch from Van Cleef & Arpels and Cartier.
According to the driver, he allegedly agreed to transport these items at the request of the man from Austria and deliver them to Kyiv.
Customs officers drew up a report on violation of customs rules due to failure to declare goods whose value exceeds the permitted import limit of 500 euros. All discovered items were seized.
The case will be further considered by the Transcarpathian Customs. If the driver's guilt is proven, he may face a fine of 30% of the value of the seized goods.
