This Day in History: April 13 — What Happened in Ukraine and the World

Today believers celebrate the day of memory of the holy hieromartyr Artemon . He was an extremely devoted man to God who lived a very long time ago, back in the 3rd century, in the city of Laodicea (the territory of modern Turkey). He was a priest and devoted his whole life to serving the Church. He did not just fulfill his duties, but did it with a big heart: he knew the Holy Scriptures well, lived modestly, truthfully and helped others.

His spiritual mentor was Bishop Sisinius - together they held the spiritual front during the times when Christians were persecuted. And when terrible persecutions came under Emperor Decius, Artemon did not hide, did not renounce the faith, did not become afraid - although he could have saved his life if he had simply told the pagans what they wanted to hear.

The shooting was organized by the Soviet government at a time when Poland was under Soviet occupation. Without any trial or investigation, these people were arrested and executed. Among the victims were army officers, police officers, artists, scientists - people who could have been important for the development of the country.
