Beer is the most harmful alcoholic beverage. It was this conclusion that American researchers came to more than 1900 adults after analyzing the diet. They found that beer lovers show the worst nutrition, physical activity and the risk of gaining weight.
In the study, participants were divided into four categories: those who drink only beer, only wine, only strong drinks, or combine different types of alcohol. Further, their diet was evaluated by the index of healthy eating.
None of the groups reached 80 points, which indicates a balanced diet. But the beer category showed the worst result - only 49 points. For comparison, those who prefer guilt were 55, and in combined categories - about 53.
Particularly alarming is the situation in young men with low income, who smoke and regularly use beer. They observed the highest daily consumption of calories, the least physical activity and an increased risk of obesity and comorbidities.
Scientists also drew attention to the fact that beer is most often accompanied by unhealthy food - rich in carbohydrates, fried, high salt or meat. The wine, on the contrary, is often consumed during a full meal, where there are vegetables, proteins and dairy products.
Experts emphasize that our gastronomic preferences affect not only health but also the choice of alcohol. Conversely, the choice of drink can form a nutrition model.
The conclusion is one: the least harm to the body brings moderate use of wine with good nutrition, not beer with chips in front of the TV.
