On February 21, Orthodox mentioned the Reverend Timothy of the Olympic, Archbishop of the Eustachi Antioch, as well as Kozelshchyna (Kozelshchansk) icon of the Mother of God. This day was popularly called Timothy Spring, because from that time gradual warming begins and awaits the arrival of spring. The believers also celebrate it as the Day of Remembrance of St. Timothy of the Olympic, the Hermit, who lived in the VIII century.
The Reverend Timothy Olympic was born in Italy and gained his name because of his activities near the Olympus Mountain, where he worked in the monastery. He later decided to become a hermit and lived alone for many years, praying and traveling deserts. The saint received the gift of healing and exile of unclean power, his life became an example of piety and service to God.
As for the Kozelshchyna icon of the Mother of God, it was named from the city of Kozel region in Poltava region. The icon became known because of the miracle when one of the graphs, turning to it, healed from paralysis. The icon became miraculous, and after that it began to worship numerous pilgrims. Now the icon is stored in the Kozelshchansky Christmas-theo-Bogoroditsky Women's Monastery.
According to folk signs, the weather on February 21, or Timothy of Spring, is a newsletter of the coming spring. If the air is warm and dry this day, it means that the spring will be warm, and if the slims start flowing - time for early field work. Also from this day begins the movement of juice in maples and birch trees, so you should not cut trees.
On this day, the church condemns wicked, gossip, lies, laziness and envy. Believers are advised not to refuse help and not offend animals. This day is also favorable for general cleaning in the home.
