Although the Ukrainian army needs more weapons and ammunition, it should not rely heavily on increased Western aid, writes Rzeczpospolita.
He has already been emptying his stocks for almost two years for the sake of helping Kyiv , and now they are so depleted that many warehouses already see the bottom of the barrel.
Kyiv does not hide the fact that in the current conditions of fighting along the entire front line, the Ukrainian army is extremely short of ammunition and all types of weapons, including air defense, long-range missiles and aircraft.
In order to continue to be able to provide military support to Ukraine , Western countries will be forced to continue emptying their own weapons warehouses, but not all of them want this.
"Factories are not coping, moreover, recently in many capitals of the alliance countries, you can hear about the reduction of stocks of weapons depots, at the expense of which Ukraine has been supported for almost two years," the publication emphasizes.
Admiral Rob Bauer, the head of the NATO Military Committee, spoke about the visible "bottom of the barrel" of ammunition and weapons back in October during the Security Forum in Warsaw.
"We started transferring weapons from warehouses half full, if not less, and now these stocks are running out," he warned.
Rzeczpospolita says that by February 1, at the request of Germany, Brussels must complete an audit that will reveal what military aid individual EU countries have provided to Ukraine and what other capabilities they have. At the same time, Kyiv believes that the warehouses of most NATO countries are quite full and they have transferred only a small part of their weapons to it from their stocks.
Of course, according to Kyiv, there are also those who have significantly depleted their reserves, such as the Czech Republic. It gave 60% of its reserves to Kyiv, Norway - 30%. Poland is also a leader among donor countries, especially in terms of the transfer of tanks. In comparison, the US donated only 5% of its arsenal.
