Denmark expressed his willingness to send her military contingent to Ukraine if necessary to ensure a future peaceful settlement. Such a statement was made by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Denmark Lars Lokke Rasmussen and Troels Lund Polesen after meeting with the Parliament Foreign Committee.
The heads of the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Defense of the country have explained that this initiative has received support among most parliamentary parties. According to Lars Lokke Rasmussen, such a step is an important signal for both Russian authorities and allies in Washington. The minister stressed that in the event of a peace agreement or ceasefire, which will demand a European military presence, Denmark is ready to take part.
At the same time, the Defense Minister Troels Lund Polesen said that there was no specific decision to send troops, because the situation remains uncertain. He noted that the government only declares its readiness, and the final decision will be made depending on the further development of events.
This Denmark initiative is an important diplomatic signal that demonstrates the readiness of European countries to participate in peaceful settlement of war in Ukraine and security in the region after the end of active fighting.
