Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation have exposed a group of servicemen who organized a scheme to steal diesel fuel from a military unit in the Kyiv region. The SBI press service reported this on Tuesday, September 16.
According to the investigation, the criminal scheme was led by the head of the fuel and lubricants service, who recruited other military personnel. The official overstated expenses in documents and fictitiously wrote off fuel for transport and generators, while other participants resold surplus diesel fuel.
To conceal their identity, they changed the license plates on civilian trucks, dressed civilian drivers in military uniforms, and used forged documents at checkpoints. Investigators determined that over 27,000 liters of fuel weighing a total of 22.9 tons were illegally sold in this way.
The military has been notified of suspicions of misappropriation of military property by a group of persons in advance of a conspiracy under martial law (Part 4, Article 410 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The suspect faces up to 15 years in prison for the crime.
Law enforcement officers are continuing their investigative actions to identify all participants in the criminal scheme and the possible involvement of other individuals.
