The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) together with the Special Investigation Unit of the National Police exposed the head of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Prydniprovsk District in possible illegal enrichment: during a search of her home, $880,000 and over €200,000 in cash were seized. The court took the suspect into custody with the alternative of bail of UAH 30 million.
The case was opened after an investigation into possible abuses at the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Pridniprovsk District, which covers the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions. Investigators conducted a series of searches, during which they seized significant amounts of undeclared currency from the home of one of the department's managers.
The woman was informed of suspicion under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code (illegal enrichment). The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The preventive measure is detention with the alternative of bail in the amount of UAH 30 million.
The State Bureau of Investigation notes that investigative actions are ongoing: they are establishing the origin of the funds and possible accomplices, and are also checking the involvement of other employees of the environmental inspection in alleged corruption schemes.
