The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has announced suspicion of Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn in committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This is about organizing the illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine .
According to mistoinform, as mayor of Irpin, he forged documents for the “Native Village” charity fund, ensuring the departure from Ukraine of his godfather Serhiy Rosstalny, the main contractor for the reconstruction of Irpin, whose companies received UAH 500 million for the reconstruction of damaged housing.
On January 24, the court chose Markushyn as a preventive measure in the form of detention, and on January 27, it removed him from the post of mayor of Irpin. Markushyn is a defendant in 18 criminal proceedings, including illegal deprivation of liberty and torture of people, fraud, forgery of documents, and embezzlement of funds from the local budget of the destroyed Irpin. In the criminal proceedings in which Markushyn appears, as mayor, he threatened witnesses, fired them, and destroyed documents and evidence.
The imposition of a preventive measure in the form of detention on Oleksandr Markushyn, who was removed from the position of mayor of Irpin, makes it impossible for him to exert pressure on more than 50 employees of the executive committee of the Irpin City Council, who during 2024 gave testimony against Markushyn to law enforcement agencies of various levels.
Using his official position, Markushyn systematically exerted pressure on witnesses, removing two deputy mayors who had testified in criminal proceedings. He fired the deputy mayor and paid other witnesses a deliberately lower salary. At the same time, there were threats to witnesses, showing them materials from criminal proceedings and “desiring” them to refuse to testify, hinting to witnesses that “everything was under control in the prosecutor’s office.”.
