Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation together with the management of the State Criminal Enforcement Service of Ukraine exposed the facts of systematic torture at the Poltava Penalty Institution. As it turned out, the institution had a specially equipped room that actually performed the function of the torture chamber.
Two pre -trial detention center - duty and senior corps of the regime and security department - have already received a report of suspicion of torture under Part 3 of Art. 127 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to investigations, prisoners who refused to cooperate with the administration complained or violated the order, intentionally punished by cruel methods. In the medical part of the institution there was a room where the victims were tied to a metal bed, deprived of food, water and access to the toilet for a few days.
One of the victims over the last three years has experienced at least ten similar acts of violence. A few days ago, DBR operatives recorded regular torture. It was then that the proceedings were opened, and the perpetrators were declared suspicion.
The issue of detention is currently being resolved. For serious crimes against humans, they are threatened with up to 12 years in prison.
The investigation is ongoing. Human rights activists call for immediate verification of other institutions for such violations, because the situation in Poltava may not be the only case.
