Oleksandr Hanushchyn, a deputy of the Lviv Regional Council from the European Solidarity party, who voluntarily joined the 103rd Terroir Defense Brigade in 2022, was able to combine military duty with profitable entrepreneurial activity during his service. In two years as an individual entrepreneur, he earned about UAH 7.5 million.
According to media reports, last year alone, Hanushchyn provided transportation services for at least 13 companies. How he managed to combine this with his job remains unclear. Especially since, according to the tax office, he had no officially registered employees, meaning he worked independently.
After demobilization, the deputy got a job at LLC "MIRA I K" - an enterprise that serves several bus routes in Lviv. The company has the status of a critical infrastructure facility, and Hanushchyn himself received "armor" from mobilization there.
The timing of the demobilization itself is also interesting. It is likely that Hanushchyn was discharged from the army as a father of three children — literally before his eldest daughter turned 18. After that date, he would no longer have the right to demobilization for family reasons.
The story of the deputy-entrepreneur raises a number of questions: how to combine service with profitable self-employed activity without a staff of employees, and how transparent is the mobilization and booking system in private companies that are closely connected to local politicians.
