The National Agency for Corruption Prevention has exposed Uman City Council deputy Olena Kernos for falsely declaring property and income totaling over 2.3 million hryvnias.
This is stated in the NACP report, which was published following the results of the audit of Kernos's declaration for 2023. The woman is a deputy from the Servant of the People party and, according to official data, works as a foreign language teacher at Uman Secondary School No. 11.
In her declaration, Kernos did not indicate several important elements of income and property:
-
Salary from the Department of Education and Humanitarian Policy of the Uman City Council (code 44308884) in the amount of 244 thousand hryvnias.
-
Salary from the agricultural house “Shumivka Za” (code 220800632) in the amount of 54 thousand hryvnias.
-
An apartment with an area of 67 square meters in the Cherkasy region, which she received back in 2000 and valued at 366 thousand hryvnias.
-
Volkswagen Tiguan 2021 model, registered on November 7, 2023, worth 588 thousand hryvnias.
-
In addition, an error was found in the document regarding the foreign passport.
Thus, the total amount of undisclosed assets and income reached 2.34 million hryvnias.
The NACP report states that Kernos' actions bear signs of intentional submission of false information, which falls under Part 1 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article provides for criminal liability for false information in the declaration of a person authorized to perform state or local government functions.
Let us remind you that Olena Kernos is not only a deputy, but also an active participant in public life in the region. In her declaration, she also listed two assistants — Kostyantyn Kernos and Nazariy Krochak.
It is not yet known whether criminal proceedings will be opened, but taking into account the conclusions of the NACP, the case has every chance of being transferred to law enforcement agencies.
