The Ukrainian energy sector was again targeted by Russian strikes on the night of June 22. Two energy workers were injured and equipment was damaged. According to the Ministry of Energy, the strikes targeted electricity distribution facilities in western and southern Ukraine.
During the Russian shelling, an overhead power line in eastern Ukraine was disconnected, which led to a decrease in the load on the generating facility.
"After eight massive attacks on the energy system by the enemy since March, the energy situation remains difficult," the Ministry of Energy notes.
The consequences of the attack are being clarified, and their elimination is ongoing. However, as reported by the ministry, an increase in the volume of power supply restrictions is not currently planned, and planned outages will be on schedule - from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
At the same time, Ukrenergo clarified that the injured energy workers worked at a facility in Zaporizhia, and the equipment damage occurred in Zaporizhia and Lviv regions. They also reported an attack on a gas industry facility in the western region.
The head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytsky, reported on the impact and fire at a critical infrastructure facility, which was extinguished by 8 am.
“The fire was extinguished. 67 firefighters and 12 units of special equipment were involved,” Kozytskyi said. The extent of the damage will be reported later.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, according to the local State Emergency Service, the impact fell on the territory of a civilian educational institution, a crater of 20 sq. m was formed with a fire source, which was eliminated.
“One of the educational buildings was partially destroyed, the others were damaged,” the State Emergency Service of Prykarpattia reported.
City Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv reported that the impact damaged windows in residential buildings and a kindergarten.
The State Emergency Service also reports fires as a result of a night attack in Volyn.
"Tonight, during enemy shelling in Volyn, 2 fires occurred - an outbuilding and a residential building in the Lutsk district were on fire," the report says.
In previous attacks, the Russians destroyed or damaged up to 9 GW of generation, about half of peak winter loads, President Zelensky said.
Thermal and hydroelectric power plants, which allowed balancing the energy system during peaks and troughs in demand, were hit the hardest. According to various estimates, 80-90% of thermal generation was knocked out of the system.
The Russians struck a preliminary blow to the energy sector on the night of June 20.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, on the night of June 22, the Russians attacked with air-, sea-, and land-based missiles, as well as UAVs.
In total, 16 missiles of various types and 13 suicide bombers were used during this attack.
Ukrainian air defense shot down 7 Kh-101/Kh-555 missiles, 4 Calibers and one Iskander, as well as all 13 martyrs.
According to the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytsky, in the western sector, air defense shot down 7 out of 10 Russian missiles.
