The State Bureau of Investigation has completed a pre-trial investigation into a former police officer from Sokyrianskyi district of Chernivtsi region, who is suspected of manufacturing and selling fake driver's licenses. According to the investigation, the scheme has been operating since at least early 2025: the ex-law enforcement officer found clients via the Internet and offered fake documents of various categories.
For a full “package” of categories (A1, A, B, C1, C, BE, C1E, CE), the offender asked for about 500 euros. His civilian acquaintance was engaged in the production of forgeries; the process lasted approximately 3–4 weeks. The documents had external differences from the real ones and were not reflected in official registers.
The scheme was promptly exposed. On May 1, 2025, the former police officer was informed of the suspicion, after which he was dismissed from service. According to the investigation, he acted in collusion with another person. The suspect's actions were qualified under Part 2 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (sale of illegally obtained holographic elements) and Part 3 of Article 358 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (forgery of documents by prior conspiracy).
The sanctions of the incriminated articles provide for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with confiscation of property. The materials regarding the alleged accomplice have been separated into a separate proceeding - the pre-trial investigation is ongoing. The procedural management is carried out by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office.
