Four men brutally murdered a 29-year-old foreigner in Kyiv in order to seize his bitcoins, worth almost 7 million hryvnias, according to the Kyiv police, which have launched an investigation into the case.
The incident occurred in the Solomyanskyi district, where residents heard screams and saw several unknown men beating and forcibly dragging a person into a car. This information was received by the police at approximately midnight, after which a special police operation was immediately launched to search for and detain the kidnappers.
Police have identified four men, aged 24 to 29, involved in the kidnapping. They had prepared for the crime in advance, having learned that the victim owned bitcoins. When the victim was returning home, the attackers attacked him, beat him and forcibly dragged him into a car. They took him to an abandoned building in the Kyiv region, where they forced him to transfer the cryptocurrency to their wallet. After that, they strangled the man and buried his body in the forest, trying to hide the traces of the crime by changing the license plates and the appearance of the car.
Thanks to the prompt actions of the police, all four perpetrators were detained. Investigators are investigating this case under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: premeditated murder for selfish motives, robbery, illegal deprivation of liberty committed by an organized group of persons, and concealment of a crime. All detainees were notified of suspicion of committing crimes, and the court took them into custody without the possibility of bail. They face life imprisonment.
