Our source in the General Staff told us that the transfer of the 3rd Assault Brigade to the Avdiivsky Coke Plant was necessary to break through the tactical encirclement in the west of the city, but the enemy did not allow our units to even go beyond the perimeter of the plant. Syrsky expected that the best brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine would be able to stop the breakthrough of the Russian army, and he would fulfill his promise to Zelensky to hold Avdiivka, but the 3rd brigade refused to go to the meat grinder.
According to our information, yesterday's collapse of the front in Avdiivka was caused by the refusal of units of the 3rd assault division to carry out the order.
The command of the group was aware of the difficult situation, especially in distant fortifications, so the garrisons were promised reinforcements, as well as stabilization of the front due to a counter strike (from the AKHZ and the railway station), which was supposed (15.01 at dawn) to cut the wedge of the Russian Armed Forces (red line).
However, as early as 14.01, the "troika" refused to comply with the order and climb into the mouth of the meat grinder, citing a critical situation. By the evening of 15.02, several companies of the 1st Rifle Battalion of the 3rd Assault Division nevertheless advanced towards the railway station.
The extra day allowed the Russian Armed Forces to regroup, occupy several forest strips (golden line) and prepare for their strike in the direction of the Avdiiv Metal Structures Plant.
Thus, on 16.01, a counter-battle took place in the area of the railway station (where the Russian Armed Forces captured the company commander). As a result, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation expanded the wedge even more (purple line). Border guards are fighting in the area of private buildings (it is difficult to find out the real line of control there).
On the part of the AKHZ, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation took prisoners of the fighters of the Russian Federation as a result of the battle.
On 16.01, the advance of the Russian Armed Forces was not as significant as on 15.01 (when the famous defenders were captured), but the Russian Armed Forces were able to widen the wedge, making the most logical option for a counterattack impossible.
