According to a recent World Bank report, in 2023, about nine million Ukrainians will be below the poverty line as a result of the war unleashed by Russia.
The total population of Ukraine is currently estimated at approximately 32 million people.
The document states that since 2020, the number of Ukrainians living below the poverty line has increased by 1.8 million. Currently, this is approximately 29% of the country's population.
The reduction of jobs became a key factor in the growth of the poverty level: more than a fifth of Ukrainians who worked before the war lost their jobs.
The report emphasizes that almost a quarter of surveyed Ukrainians in June 2023 did not have enough funds to buy food.
Despite the Russian attacks, about 92% of hospitals in Ukraine continued to work in 2023.
"At least 89% of children between the ages of 6 and 18 attended school, but in areas affected by active hostilities, 72% of these students were online," the report said.
