Diplomatic conflict: the EU reacted sharply to Zelensky's words about Orban

The European Commission has reacted sharply to a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which included threats against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Brussels said that such rhetoric towards European Union member states is unacceptable.

This was announced by European Commission spokesman Olof Gill, commenting on the situation surrounding the Ukrainian president's loud statement.

According to a representative of the European Commission, the EU clearly emphasizes the inadmissibility of any threats towards member states of the union.

"The European Commission is very clear that this type of statement is unacceptable. There should be no threats against the Member States of the European Union. I will also reiterate that we are in active discussions with all parties on this issue," Gilles said.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy threatened in a public statement to give the Ukrainian military the address of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban so that they could "speak to him in their own language.".

These words provoked a sharp reaction not only internationally, but also within Hungary itself. In particular, the statement was criticized by representatives of the Hungarian opposition, who also called such statements unacceptable.

The incident was another episode in tense relations between Kyiv and Budapest. In recent years, diplomatic disputes have regularly arisen between Ukraine and Hungary, related both to issues of national minorities and to the political position of the Hungarian government regarding the war and sanctions against Russia.

Brussels emphasizes that they are continuing consultations with all parties and are waiting for the rhetoric to de-escalate.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Hungarian opposition party "Tisa" Peter Magyar has intensified criticism of Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Today, he called on the European Union to sever relations with Ukraine until Zelensky apologizes to Viktor Orban for yesterday's threats.

"No foreign head of state dares to threaten any Hungarian citizen. Hungary's energy supply is a national issue that stands above party politics and election campaigns. I expect the leadership of the European Union to sever all relations with Ukraine until President Zelensky clarifies his words and apologizes to all Hungarian citizens for his statements," Magyar said.
