Ukrainian film director and military man Oleg Sentsov said that the war in Ukraine is unlikely to end anytime soon. In his opinion, the end of the conflict depends on Russia's cessation of offensive actions and the Kremlin's readiness to recognize the war as a mistake and return the temporarily occupied territories.
Speaking at the annual YES conference “How Do We End War,” Sentsov noted:
"I have bad news for you: the war will not end tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, and most likely it will not end this year.".
He emphasized that the war has changed significantly compared to 2022. If earlier the Ukrainian military "ran with machine guns at full height," now the infantry is forced to "sit in holes" to avoid drone strikes. At the same time, the Russians have stopped conducting large-scale mechanized offensives, using infiltration tactics in small groups.
According to Sentsov, the turning point could come when Ukrainian forces finally stop the advance of the Russian army, and then Vladimir Putin could decide to end hostilities. At the same time, the director emphasized that even after this, the war will not actually end - tough international sanctions against Russia remain necessary.
Sentsov is convinced that the second stage of ending the war is possible only after a change in the political regime in Russia.
"The second stage of the end of the war is when the political regime in Russia changes. When Russia recognizes this war as a mistake, when Russia is ready to give up our territory... This will be a victory for me. I believe that this day will come ," he concluded.
