Berliner Zeitung reports , citing the difficult situation on the front, which stretches for over 1,200 km, and the growing shortage of military personnel.
Against the backdrop of high casualties, desertion, and limited reserves, the topic of involving women of draft age in the defense of the country is increasingly being raised in Kyiv. At present, it is only a matter of discussion, but experts do not rule out that under certain conditions, relevant decisions may be made in the near future.
The publication recalls that discussions about the participation of women in combat operations have been ongoing in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Back in 2023, then-Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska admitted the possibility of mobilization even among convicted women.
A similar position was taken by the head of the Air Intelligence Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Maria Berlinska. In her statements, she emphasized that the threat to the state was so large that all citizens, regardless of gender, should be mobilized. "We all have to fight — both men and women," she said in an interview.
Currently, according to Ukrainian law, women in certain professions are already required to register for military service. At the same time, the issue of mandatory mobilization remains open and requires a separate political solution.
