According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukraine was able to successfully create an army that provides defense in conditions of high tension in the east of the country. However, to conduct a successful counteroffensive against Russian forces, Ukraine needs significantly more military resources and support.
This conclusion is made by the American publication on the basis of conversations with representatives of Western and Ukrainian intelligence. Ukraine was able to compensate for losses and build up reserves - thanks to this, the Russians managed to be stopped in Kharkiv region, and in Donetsk region they are advancing, little by little, but at a "terrible price".
At the same time, Moscow's plans for a new large-scale offensive in the summer remain unclear.
Kyiv has fairly good intelligence on the situation on the battlefield and can spot Russian forces massing for a potential attack. But it can be quite difficult to derive the strategic intentions of the Russians from this, explained the representative of the Ukrainian intelligence, adding that throughout the war, Russia carried out attacks that the standard military doctrine does not foresee.
