In the correctional colony in Chernihiv, which became the center of attention due to the disclosure of the "royal" conditions of imprisonment of ex-officials, unusual privileges and luxurious conditions for its "special prisoners" were revealed.
The Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine discovered shocking violations of human rights in Minsk Correctional Colony No. 91 in Chernihiv Oblast. Amid unsanitary conditions, fungus and cockroaches, three former high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine enjoy privileged conditions of detention.
According to the results of the monitoring visit, the Ombudsman established that the ex-head of one of the Departments for the Execution of Criminal Punishments of the Ministry of Justice and two of his accomplices live in renovated premises, isolated from the rest of the convicts. They have at their disposal as many as five rooms, their own walking yard and receive food directly in the rooms.
"All the above-mentioned facts indicate injustice and interest of certain persons. I have already contacted the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, where they did not see anything strange in this. After that, he once again sent another letter to them, and also separately addressed the law enforcement officers," Dmytro Lubinets said in his statement.
The ombudsman emphasized the inadmissibility of such discrimination and called for an immediate response from the responsible authorities. He also noted that similar cases undermine citizens' confidence in the justice system and the principles of the rule of law.
