The head of the environmental inspection was caught in illegal enrichment: over a million dollars in cash were found at home
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, law enforcement officers detained the head of one of the departments of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Prydniprovsk District (which covers the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions) on suspicion of illegal enrichment.
During searches as part of a criminal investigation into possible corruption by an environmental inspector, law enforcement officers found $880,000 and over €200,000 in cash at her home. None of these amounts were reflected in the official's official declaration.
According to the Telegram channel Seredych.info, it concerns Liliya Chigrikova. Despite a modest declaration, which lists an apartment of 45 square meters and a 2008 Nissan Qashqai, the official's house contained cash in an amount that is dozens of times higher than her official income.
The woman was detained on suspicion of illicit enrichment under Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article provides for a penalty of up to ten years in prison with confiscation of property.
The court chose for Chyhrykova a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of 30 million hryvnias.
The investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement officers are investigating the sources of the seized funds and the possible involvement of other employees of the environmental inspection in corruption schemes.
