By 2051, the population of Ukraine will be 25.2 million

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has published a new Demographic Strategy, according to which the country's population may decrease to 25.2 million by 2051. This forecast causes concern in society and among experts, because in 2001, according to the census, the population of Ukraine was 48.5 million.

According to the Institute of Demography and Quality of Life Problems of the National Academy of Sciences, the population on January 1, 2022 was 42 million people.

As of July 2024, there are already 35.8 million people, while only 31.1 million live in the territory controlled by Ukraine.

By 2041, it is predicted to decrease to 28.9 million people, and by 2051 - to 25.2 million people.

Although the Cabinet of Ministers notes that it is problematic to build scenarios in war conditions.

Among the reasons for population decline, the government cites war, migration, declining birth rates and increased mortality, population aging, frequent premature deaths, refusal of the population to have children, deterioration of health due to the unsportsmanlike lifestyle of Ukrainians, and poor medicine in wartime conditions.
