The Government of Ukraine is developing a new multiple citizenship law, which will allow Ukrainians to have several passports. The Minister of National Unity Alexei Chernyshov has informed about it in an interview with the Italian edition of La Repubblica , Channel 24 reports.
According to him, the final text of the bill should be prepared by the end of 2025. Ukrainian legislation is currently prohibiting dual citizenship, but the realities of wartime and the millionth diaspora are demanding changes.
"We will not force anyone to return - it should only be a voluntary step. The task of the ministry is to unite all Ukrainians, no matter where they live now," Chernyshov stressed.
In total, more than 20 million citizens live outside Ukraine, of whom about 5 million left after a full -scale war. To support those who have left the country, the Ministry of National Unity develops a digital platform. It should be the only point of access to services and assistance: housing, work, legal information, adaptation.
