The Ministry of Health has announced the arrival of another batch of BCG vaccine intended for newborns. This includes 170,000 doses, which are already being prepared for distribution among the regions.
The vaccine was delivered as part of an international initiative involving UNICEF and the Global Vaccine Alliance, part of a long-term program to ensure access to vaccination for all children, even in the most remote communities.
BCG vaccination in the first days of life is critically important, as tuberculosis in babies often develops rapidly and can affect the brain, bones, or internal organs. Doctors emphasize that even a delay of a few weeks increases the risk of serious complications.
This year, the need for BCG vaccine has increased, in part due to population displacement and difficult logistics in wartime. The Ministry of Health promises that the batch will be quickly delivered to maternity wards and outpatient clinics, where it is needed most.
For those who did not have time to get vaccinated in the maternity hospital, there is an opportunity to get vaccinated in regular medical facilities - after an examination by a pediatrician or family doctor.
