Doctors explained how to properly deal with a hangover

A hangover is not a sentence for the body if you approach recovery correctly. Doctors emphasize: a competent strategy helps to reduce the symptoms of intoxication, restore performance and improve well-being within a few hours after waking up. The main thing is not to harm yourself with common mistakes and focus on maintaining water balance, the liver and the nervous system.

First of all, the body needs to rehydrate and restore electrolytes. Alcohol has a strong diuretic effect, which causes fluid and minerals to be lost, including potassium and magnesium. Plain water is a basic option, but alkaline mineral water without gas works more effectively - it helps normalize the acid-base balance and reduce stomach irritation. Pharmacy electrolyte solutions can be useful, which quickly replenish the deficit of salts. Brine is also allowed, but in small quantities so as not to overload the digestive system.

The second important step is a light and thoughtful breakfast. The common belief that fatty foods are beneficial is wrong, as they create an additional burden on the liver, which is already working to neutralize toxins. The optimal products are eggs, which contain cysteine and help break down acetaldehyde, chicken broth as a source of fluid and nutrients, and oatmeal, which stabilizes blood sugar levels. Ginger tea is useful to reduce nausea, optionally with a small amount of honey.

The third element of recovery is helping the body eliminate toxins and getting enough rest. Sorbents, such as activated charcoal or silica-based products, can reduce intestinal intoxication. A contrast shower stimulates blood circulation and promotes overall tone, and an additional 1–2 hours of sleep after breakfast allows the nervous system to recover.

At the same time, doctors warn against actions that only worsen the condition. A hangover with alcohol does not cure, but only postpones the symptoms and increases the burden on the heart and liver. It is also not recommended to drink strong coffee on an empty stomach, as caffeine increases dehydration and can worsen a headache.
