In the Lviv region, law enforcement officers have exposed and reported suspicions of the deputy director for temporary disability expertise of one of the district hospitals in extorting and receiving a bribe. The Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office reported this.
According to the investigation, the medical official demanded $2,500 from the patient for influencing the decision of the expert commission to extend his disability group III. According to the prosecutor's office, the money was supposed to ensure a "positive" decision by the commission members to assess the person's functional state.
The doctor was detained while transferring the entire agreed amount in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. During a search of his office, cash, draft notes, and medical documentation that may have evidentiary value were seized.
The court, having considered the request of the regional prosecutor's office, chose a preventive measure for the suspect - detention with the possibility of posting bail. He was also suspended from his position for the duration of the investigation.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway. Law enforcement officers are identifying other possible participants in the corruption scheme related to illegal influence on the work of medical and social expert commissions.
According to Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, obtaining illegal gain in a large amount is punishable by imprisonment for a term of up to 10 years with confiscation of property.
