Donald Trump, the newly elected president of the United States, is determined to end the war in Ukraine. His adviser on national security, Michael Waltz, in an interview with the CBS channel, voiced the main directions of the new administration's work in this matter.
Volz noted three key points that will be decisive in the process of ending the war:
- Formation of negotiators. It is important who will be invited to the negotiating table.
- The mechanism of involvement of the parties. It is necessary to find a way to force the parties to sit down at the negotiating table.
- Agreement framework. Determination of conditions that will be acceptable to all parties to the conflict.
"President Trump has made it clear that this war must end," Volz emphasized.
Volz also said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is ready to cooperate with the new US administration to achieve peace. However, it remains unknown whether this "peace plan" will include demands on Russia to withdraw troops from the territory of Ukraine.
The adviser's words caused mixed reactions. He warned that the war in Ukraine is a "meat grinder" that can lead to escalation on a global scale.
During the election campaign, Donald Trump claimed that he could end the war in a day. However, his words met with skepticism among experts. Even if negotiations with Russia take place, the resolution of the conflict depends on many factors: Ukraine's positions, international pressure, and the Kremlin's willingness to make concessions.
In his latest speech in Washington, Trump reiterated his desire for peace. He said that immediately after taking office, he will start contacting Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
Experts believe that Trump will have to balance between the desire for a quick peace and the protection of Ukraine's interests. In addition, his ideas may cause resistance among US allies who support Ukraine.
Will Trump succeed in implementing his ambitious plan? There is no answer to this question yet. But one thing is clear: the conflict in Ukraine remains a key challenge for the new US president.
