The wife of Finance Minister Serhii Marchenko, who urged Ukrainians not to buy cars during the war, has been using a MINI Cooper since the beginning of last year.
This is evidenced by the minister's declaration.
In 2023, Maryna Marchenko received the right to use a 2-year-old MINI Cooper SE car - a British-German brand of compact, powerful premium-class cars manufactured by the BMW concern. The average cost of such a 2021 foreign car is currently around $28,000 or UAH 1.1 million.
It will be recalled that on December 18, 2023, an official said that all Ukrainians should "switch to military training", limit their consumption and stop buying "expensive phones and cars". He stated at the time that "unfortunately, we are still living in a rather specific reality."
All this was said by the Minister of Finance after his wife Marina received a MINI Cooper SE for use in January 2023.
In 2023, Maryna Marchenko received a salary in the total amount of UAH 605,000 at LLC "Isis-IVF" - this is a medical institution. She is also registered as an individual entrepreneur and earned UAH 1.97 million from her business last year. The total income is UAH 2.6 million.
This is more than the ministerial salary, which Serhiy Marchenko declared in the amount of 1.1 million UAH (93.5 thousand UAH/month). The 43-year-old official also reported receiving a pension of UAH 64.5 thousand.
MINI Cooper SE is not the only car in the family. Serhiy Marchenko was also registered (ownership) of an Audi A6 of 2017, which the minister purchased in 2019, as stated in the declaration, for UAH 1.5 million.
The minister's family also has two apartments in Kyiv (84.6 sq.m. and 40.3 sq.m.) and another (88.3 sq.m.) the couple rented in January 2023. All monetary assets of the couple are registered to Maryna Marchenko - UAH 68,000 in Privatbank and Sens Bank accounts and $10,000 in cash.
