Law enforcement officers have reported suspicions to the former deputy head of one of the departments of the Interregional Rapid Response Center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Sumy region. He is suspected of using his official position to involve subordinates in performing work for private interests.
According to the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office, the official organized construction and repair work on the territory of the household belonging to his wife. According to the investigation, employees of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine were systematically involved in these works.
Investigators found that during March and April 2024, at least 12 rescuers were engaged in construction and renovation of a private house during working hours, rather than performing official tasks. In addition, they were forced to work after the end of the working day.
Separately, law enforcement officers found out that materials dismantled from the school building during official work may have been used during construction. This fact is already the subject of a court proceeding regarding possible misappropriation of property.
The official's illegal actions, according to the investigation, were exposed in September 2024.
The actions of the defendant were qualified under Part 2 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - as recruiting people for the purpose of exploitation using their official dependence.
At the same time, according to the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by law and confirmed by a court verdict of guilty.
Investigative actions are currently underway, and law enforcement officers are establishing all the circumstances of the case.
