Russian aggression has dealt a devastating blow to Ukraine's energy infrastructure. DTEK Energy, one of the key players in the industry, has suffered massive losses, but continues to fight to restore capacity. The company's CEO, Ildar Saleev, revealed details of the situation and plans for the future.
According to Saleev, DTEK Energo's thermal power plants have been subjected to over 180 attacks by Russian forces, resulting in the loss of 90% of the company's capacity. Preliminary estimates of the losses are at $350 million.
Despite the enormous destruction, DTEK Energy continues restoration work. Power engineers are working around the clock, trying to restore the damaged equipment as quickly as possible. However, the scale of the destruction is such that full restoration will take years.
The company actively searches for spare parts and equipment around the world, placing orders for the manufacture of the necessary equipment at factories on all continents. DTEK Energy specialists are constantly looking for equipment that can be purchased, delivered and installed in the shortest possible time.
In 2024, DTEK Energy plans to spend 4 billion hryvnias (about $100 million) of its own funds on the repair of thermal power plants. These funds are intended exclusively for the restoration of lost capacity.
Despite all the difficulties, DTEK Energy does not consider any of its facilities “unrepairable.” The company is confident that all power plants will be restored, just as Ukraine will win the war. This confidence is the driving force for energy workers who fight every day for every kilowatt of electricity for the country.
