Today, March 5, marks two years since it became known about the murder of a well-known banker, a member of the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations with Russia at the end of February 2022, as well as an employee of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, Denys Kireev.
His murder in the midst of fighting for Kyiv caused a great scandal. According to the first version that appeared in the mass media, Kireev allegedly worked for Russia and was killed in the center of Kyiv by SBU officers.
But soon GUR announced that Kireev is their employee who died during a special task. About a year later, they returned to this topic again. In an interview with the mass media, the head of the State Security Service Kyrylo Budanov, in fact, directly accused the SBU employees of extrajudicial killing of Kireev.
After the publication of the publications, Budanov met with the then Acting head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, after which the official statement of the GUR and the SBU about their interaction was issued.
Denys Kireev was buried at Baikovo Cemetery in Kyiv. His grave is located not far from the graves of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who died in the plane crash in Brovary in 2023.
A full-length monument was erected to Kireev. The monument stands with its back to the central avenue and its face to the city. The rest of the monuments, which are installed nearby, are deployed facing the central avenue.
A plaque with the date of birth and death is placed near the statue of Kireev. It is written that Kireev died on March 3, 2022.
An owl is depicted on the table near the monument, which is also on the emblem of GUR. But on the monument to Kireev, the owl does not hold a sword, as it is depicted on the emblem of Ukrainian intelligence.
It is also written on the board: "You were our sun, which always warmed us with your warmth. You were as reliable as a rock. Your kindness, loyalty and determination will forever remain in our hearts."
Now there are many fresh flowers and lamps on the grave.
