Dynamo Kyiv have made a transfer reinforcement by signing a contract with 29-year-old defender Valeriy Luchkevych. The player has transferred as a free agent and has signed a contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
Valeriy Luchkevych is a graduate of Metalurh Zaporizhia, but he made his real breakthrough in professional football with Dnipro. It was in this club that he made his debut in the Ukrainian Premier League in 2014. In the same year, the young defender received the prestigious Golden Talent of Ukraine award, which confirmed his status as one of the most promising football players in the country.
Luchkevych's speed, endurance, and versatility attracted the attention of European clubs, and in 2017 he signed a contract with the Belgian Standard. However, he failed to adapt in Europe, so he soon returned to Ukraine.
In recent years, Luchkevych has played for Oleksandria, Dnipro-1 and Kolos, demonstrating a stable game in the UPL. During his career, he played 148 matches in the Ukrainian championship, scoring 12 goals, and also played for the youth and youth national teams of Ukraine.
In his first interview after signing the contract, the football player said that he did not hesitate for long:
“As soon as the agent said that Dynamo was interested in me, I immediately said yes. Everything was resolved very quickly.”
He also admitted that, despite a minor break in game practice, he is ready to get back in shape as soon as possible and fight for a place in the Kyiv team.
Luchkevych emphasized that he has known since childhood that Dynamo is a team that must always fight for the championship. His main goal is to prove to the coaching staff that he is capable of helping the team fight for titles and reach its highest level again.
Luchkevych's transfer was another step for Dynamo towards strengthening the squad before the crucial matches of the season. Only time will tell whether the former "golden talent of Ukraine" will be able to regain his leadership position.
