The Director of the Lower Dniester Hydroelectric Power Plant is suspected of wasting 5 million hryvnias

According to the SBU, the SBU exposed a large -scale corruption scheme in the Nizhnistrovskaya Hydroelectric Power Plant, located in the Chernivtsi region. The investigation found that the company's officials caused losses to almost UAH 5 million.

According to investigators, the organizer of the equipment is the General Director of the hydroelectric power station, who in conspiracy with the head of the public procurement department and the engineer of the enterprise concluded contracts with two "necessary" contractors. The cost of the works was deliberately overstated, and the tender documentation was adjusted to specific contractors.

Despite the violations from the State Judicial Service, the agreements were not canceled and the money was paid.

Within four contracts, the total value of 16 million hryvnias envisaged work on the strengthening of structures, waste systems and hydroelectric infrastructure. However, as the examination showed, the real cost of the work performed was reduced by UAH 4.8 million, which, according to the investigation, the participants of the scheme were appropriated.

On May 7, 2025, DBR employees conducted searches in the enterprise's office, as well as in the premises of the persons involved. The searches seized financial documentation, information carriers and cash in the equivalent of UAH 25 million.

Three persons were notified of suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - the waste of property in particularly large sizes, committed in the conditions of martial law with an organized group.

The sanction of the article provides up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing.
