US President Joe Biden asked Congress to allocate an additional 24 billion dollars for military, humanitarian and economic aid to Ukraine. This sum should become part of a new support package aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.
Politico writes about this with reference to sources. He secretly sent such a request to Congress. The sum is needed for aid to Ukraine and replenishment of the American army's weapons reserves instead of those sent to Kyiv.
Biden's appeal may be considered in December. However, in the case of approval, the aid will have an impact on the Ukrainian battlefield only in the distant future.
According to sources, the White House expects that $16 billion will be allocated by congressmen to replenish American reserves. And another $8 billion - from the line of the Initiative for the Promotion of Security of Ukraine (USAI). It does not provide for the rapid dispatch of aid from military depots. Under this program, the Pentagon concludes contracts with manufacturers for the production of weapons for Ukraine.
Politico estimated the chances of Congress agreeing to this request of Biden as "small".
